Studies on copper metabolism. IV. The influence of copper on the absorption of iron.

چکیده
In a previous paper in this series (l), evidence was presented that the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract of swine deficient in copper is markedly reduced. This conclusion rests, in part, on the observation that in copper-deficient pigs fed the same quantity of either natural or radioiron for the same period of time as litter mate controls there was less iron absorbed, natural or isotopic, by the copper-deficient animals as indicated by the amount of iron in the blood, liver, kidney, spleen, and heart. It is generally recognized that the extent of iron absorption can be dermined most accurately and reliably by measuring the total body content of radioiron following the oral administration of the isotope (2). The observations in swine, referred to above, are subject to criticism because, for obvious technical reasons, the total body content of the isotope could not be measured. The purpose of the present paper is to record the results of studies on the total body radioiron of male albino rats fed radioiron and different amounts of copper by mouth. A preliminary report of this work has been published (3).

متن کاملEffect of iron supplements on serum copper status in pregnant women in Islamshahr
Introduction: Iron deficiency anemia is recognized as the most prevalent nutrient deficiency in the world and iron supplements, which are prescribed daily in pregnant women for prevention of this anemia, may have unfavorable effects on copper absorption. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of iron supplementation on serum copper status of pregnant women. Materials and Methods...

The copper level in the serum of 1280 and liver of 200 goats raised in the mountain areas of Khuzestanprovince, Iran were determined. Copper, molybdenum and iron content of soil and pastures as well as sulfurcontent of the pastures were seasonally estimated. Mean serum copper levels of goats in Behbahan,Ramhormoz, Eizeh and Masjed-Soleyman districts were 8.14 ± 0.21, 1.98 ± 0.12, 7.74 ± 0.11 an...

Trace element analyses was carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and XRF on a small collection of bones and teeth from horse and human bone samples to check the ratio of strontium and calcium and other elements like zinc and copper. Interestingly the copper representation in humans is much higher compared to that of Sr/Ca. This shows that their diet consisted mainly of animal me...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of Effective Parameters at Laser Sintering the Mixture of Iron and Copper Powder
Optimization of process parameter is one of the ideal goals in laser sintering. The results of this process were measured as output parameters like: density, micro hardening, macro hardening, tension, roughness, stiffness, balling. In this paper, the influence of input parameter such as laser power, scan speed, material powder and etc are surveyed on output parameter like balling affection and ...
